When Station Casinos (now Ameristar Casinos) entered the Missouri gaming market, PGAV provided economic impact projections for the proposed Casino operations and follow-up estimates after the gaming facilities were fully operational. One such study examined the impacts of the Casino and included a comprehensive assessment of key economic indicators before and after the introduction of gaming in the Kansas City region. The research also dispelled many purported beliefs that successful gaming businesses come at the expense of the regional economy as a whole.
Ameristar Casino, a $225 million gaming and entertainment complex, is built on a prominent 170 acre site located in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of the Missouri River and I-435. The complex includes two riverboat casinos that are continuously moored in a lagoon along the Missouri River and are connected to an enclosed mall designed to replicate a turn-of-the-century streetscape. Featuring a Victorian theme, the complex includes approximately 130,000 square feet of gaming space, over 3,000 slot machines, 12 restaurants, 11 lounges, a 1,400-seat theatre, specialty and gift shops, and visitor accommodations.
