The St. Charles Convention Center and Hotel are designed largely of brick and cast stone, reflecting the historic local materials of nearby districts. The project contains a 30,000 square foot exhibition hall, 12,000 square foot ballroom/banquet hall, and 19,000 square feet of meeting rooms.
The entry plaza features seating, fountains and decorative paving in a landscaped setting, perfect for pre-function or special outdoor events. Inside, the main atrium features murals with historic themes and large windows for views and natural light. A major ballroom and 15 meeting rooms provide for simultaneous events. The large exhibition hall can be sub-divided into half, or open onto the adjacent junior ballroom.
This 55-acre, mixed use waterfront development is located just a few blocks south of Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri’s largest historic district, which attracts one million visitors a year. PGAV provided full architectural and planning services, including preparation of detailed economic impact studies.
Primary facilities include a themed entertainment, retail and hotel complex. A total of 3,500 rooms were planned in three separate hotel structures. Restaurant, entertainment, retail and bar space exceeds one million square feet. The development is themed to evoke images of a grand tour of the great cities of Europe and America at the turn of the 20th century. The lobbies of the signature hotels, an 800-room “European Continental” and a 1,000-room “New York Skyscraper,” are fully integrated into the themed streetscape. Above the busy street, on the roofs of the shops and other venues, is a landscaped terrace overlooking the waterfront.
The entire development is constructed on more than 1,000 piers, elevating the prime spaces above the 500-year flood plain of the Missouri River. This project was planned and designed by PGAV, and constructed by the developer at a cost of more than $550 million.
